On 10th January 2008, Level 3 British Ice Dance Coach John Dunn moved to Spain accompanied by his wife and family. His move was instigated by The Spanish Federation of Ice Sports who, after a long search, found the most suitable coach who they felt could bring the highest standard of Ice Dance to Spain. The Spanish Federation of Ice Sports have set him a great challenge - to implement the introduction of ice dance as a discipline, which up until this moment has been nonexistent in our country.
His work began in January 2008 with his first pair, Sara Hurtado and Adria Diaz. Within a month of them beginning to train, they gave an exhibition showing one "compulsory dance" in the Villaba Championship (Madrid) on the 17th February and a different "compulsory dance" in the Madrid Championships on 16th March.

To address the increased country-wide awareness of the discipline, a nationwide casting was held in Majadahonda on 10th May 2008 where skaters of all levels and ages participated. The turnout was superb and reflected the great national interest in the new sport of ice dance and the enlarged Spanish Federated Team of Sara Hurtado & Adria Diaz, Maria Antolin &Luis Fenero and Sandra del Valle Velasco & Rory Ross-Docherty began full-time training in September 2008, working together six days a week.
This project, which is subsidised by the Superior Council of Sports, is really beginning to take off. Sara and Adri have already participated in International Ice Dance Competitions in Madrid, South Africa and Germany and it is anticipated that our three couples will be competing internationally and representing Spain at various levels of international competition in the next season raising the profile of Spanish Ice Dance as a whole.
